John from the UK:
"The boat finally docked into the historical port of Bristol and your book arrived yesterday: What a wonderful collection of images! I just love the way you have framed them, too, and your commentary makes me laugh out loud. My favorite Tees (sorry I can't pick just one) are, "Same Shit/Different Asshole," "Where is Lee Harvey Oswald Now that We Need Him?," and , "Good Bush/Bad Bush."
This book should be required reading, not only for photography students, but students of sociology, too."
Maryland:A reader from Maryland pondered a long list, finally settled on "What would Jesus Bomb?" and "Democrats are Sexy (Whoever heard of a great piece of elephant?)" West Virginia: Bob, professor from West Virginia, cited "the humor and irony of the parody front page featuring the headline 'Bush Not Liar! Iraq WMD Abducted by Aliens...hiding Iraqi WMD on surface of the moon' ...a brilliant commentary in the best Harvard Lampoon tradition. I love it." Bob also cited George Orwell's "Ministry of Truth" and its slogan, "Ignorance is Bliss," paraphrased as "Arrogance is Bliss," under a drawing of George Bush.![]() Josh, with one foot in Texas and one in New York, gave "Let's Mess With Texas" first place. "My friends went to Iraq to look for weapons of mass destruction and all they found was this lousy T-shirt" was second.
Australia:
[Read My T-shirt] for President... a True History of the Political Front and Back is full of wonderful photographs and fabulous T-shirts... a delight to read and chock full of fascinating information and observations on the American political process. And it's (nearly) all conveyed through the T-shirts -- hundreds of them, together with Judy's insightful, witty and brilliantly written commentary.
Every photograph is individually, magnificently framed and captioned, revealing some fine insights into the act of photographic practice and the photographic process... It's a real gem and I couldn't recommend it more highly. For favorites, although I liked so many, my first choice, page 84, 'Bitches vote too' has great strength (even though the origin of bitch in this context is a little different from the way I take it). And, besides, the wearer of the T-shirt is rather cute. And on page 90, the portrait of Alfred E. Newman from Mad magazine (such an old favorite) as George W. Bush sporting the badge, WORRY, is just terrific. And so is the book. signed, Catherine Rogers, PhD Australia, 2007. PS. I considered adding, "Doctors highly recommend this book," because (seriously), although the book has its serious side and is full of information and extraordinary, and ordinary, observations, it's also so much fun. I have laughed and laughed. |
